A 24-year-old sex offender was arrested in Van Buren early Tuesday morning after police found he was living near a school.

Daniel W. Hill was arrested for failing to register and booked into the Crawford County Detention Center. Hill is a level 3 sex offender, according to police.

Just before 5 a.m. officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Cedar Street on reports of a man wearing all black who appeared to be intoxicated.

Hill was attempting to get into his sister’s home, a police report states. He was not intoxicated at the time, police said.

Hill began living at his sister’s home last week, but was registered at a residence in Fort Smith.

Under state law, a level 3 or 4 sex offender is prohibited from living with 2,000 feet of a school, park, daycare or youth center. Police say Hill’s sister’s residence is near several elementary schools and daycares.
