A Fayetteville man faces a charge of aggravated assault on a family member after police said he pulled a knife during an argument and threatened to stab someone in the eye.

Richard Walls, 45, was booked in the Washington County Detention Center on Friday night and has a $5,000 bond, according to the Sheriff’s Department website. Walls has a March 4 court date.

A preliminary police report said officers responded to a disturbance call on Carlsbad Trace on Friday afternoon. Gregory Brown, 21, said he and Walls got into an argument after Walls’ dog snapped at him, the report said.

The argument escalated, and Brown said he and Walls threatened to fight each other, the report said. Brown said Walls pulled a knife from his pocket, and his mother tried to separate the two men, the report said.

Both Gregory and Josette Brown, 44, said Walls made threats with the knife, the report said. Josette Brown said Walls yelled, “I’ll cut you and stab him in his [expletive] eye,” and that he would “gut your [expletive] [expletive],” the report said.

A 13-year-old girl told officers she saw Walls making downward stabbing motions with the knife while threatening to cut Gregory Brown, the report said.

Officers found Walls at a convenience store on Wedington Drive, and Walls had a knife on him, the report said. Walls admitted to officers he had the knife but denied threatening anyone with it, the report said.

The report did not specify how Walls and Gregory Brown were related.
