A new bridge is coming to Mercy trail in Rogers.

Construction crews began installing a 40-feet long concrete bridge connecting the Mercy trail to the Razorback Greenway system Wednesday morning.

The bridge is the first of five planned pedestrian bridges in the area that will connect city trails to the Razorback Greenway system.

The Razorback Greenway system’s goal is to connect area trails to eventually connect Fayetteville, Johnson, Springdale, Lowell, Rogers and Bentonville via the trails.

Once finished the new trail system will be approximately 36 miles long and stretch up to Bella Vista.

The other four pedestrian bridges are planned at Springdale, Fayetteville, Lowell and another one in Rogers.

The bridge was put in place from a $300,000 joint-grant between the Arkansas Department of Transportation and the City of Rogers. The cities are still trying to get more funding as the Razorback Greenway trail system progresses.

Rogers city officials are also considering adding additional landscaping and a children’s playground to the pedestrian bridge locations.
