Former Fayetteville High School teacher, Tim Hollis, was let go from the district for insubordination, school officials said.
It took nearly 10 hours of negotiating before the board voted 7-0 to fire Hollis, early Tuesday morning.
The negotiating went well into the night, but the Fayetteville School Board unanimously voted to fire the FHS debate and forensics teacher.
"The school board voted 7-0 to uphold the administration's recommendation to terminate the contract of Tim Hollis," said Alan Wilbourn, Public Information Officer for the Fayetteville school district.
The school board made the decision around 2:30 a.m. According to Superintendent Vicki Thomas, Hollis was suspended last year after he failed to comply with a new employee training system, and was ordered to take an anger management class.
He was also banned from campus and asked to write a letter of apology to the principal and faculty.
Hollis refused, because he reportedly "wasn't sorry for anything he said or did."
In May of 2012, Hollis tried to file a lawsuit against the district for requiring him to take counseling sessions before being returning to work.
The district asked for that lawsuit to be thrown out, because they claimed Hollis was trying to avoid their disciplinary process.
In July, Hollis filed a document asking the court to deny a motion by the school district to dismiss his lawsuit.
Hollis was a forensics and debate coach at Fayetteville High School.
The termination hearing began Monday at 5 p.m. and ended at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
