Ever since the Newton Connecticut School shooting and the call for gun control following the shooting, guns are flying off the shelves. Background checks are now at their highest level in fifteen years.

Ozark Armory in Springdale is busy and their inventory is lower than normal because of the increased demand.

Mike Nease said it's been that way for months and it's not just one item. "There's been an uptick in everything, been an uptick in everything," said Nease.

Manufacturers say they are working around the clock but can't keep up with demand. Inventory issues are affecting stores across the country including Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest retailer.

A spokesperson for Wal-Mart told 5News that local and national Wal-Mart stores have seen gun shortages ever since gun control talks in Washington recently resurfaced. Responding to the increase in demand Wal-Mart has limited the amount of ammunition customers can purchase.

Ammunition and gun supply problems are affecting stores around the country.

"I do know on our end of it we can't get nearly the merchandise that we're accustomed to getting," said Nease. He said there is no end in sight,  "Supplies have gotten worse, a lot worse."

Some customers at Ozark Armory have told store employees there is one reason they came to purchase a gun.

"All the talk about gun control has gotten more people, it's gotten people interested that maybe weren't interested before," Nease said.

Wal-Mart has limited the amount of ammunition its customers can purchase but they haven’t limited the number of guns that can be purchased.
