Arkansas and Kentucky used to be the premier matchup in the SEC.

On Saturday, Arkansas looked like one of the premier teams in the league.

The Razorbacks exploded in the second half and ran away with a 73-60 win against Kentucky at a raucous Bud Walton Arena.

“It was a heck of an effort from our guys,” head coach Mike Anderson said. “We came out and defended well and did a good job of taking Kentucky out of what they wanted to do. Our guys gave 110 percent in effort.”

Arkansas (18-11, 9-7) forced 19 turnovers, many of which resulted in easy baskets on the other end. Kentucky outshot Arkansas by more than 12 percent, and the Hogs pulled down 19 offensive rebounds.

Marshawn Powell led all scorers with 15 points and added nine rebounds while Coty Clarke had his first career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. BJ Young finished with 13 points.

“Coach emphasized defense, making the wear and tear part of the game and taking advantage of their lack of bench depth,” Clarke said. “We amped it up in the second half and we clicked defensively.”

Sherwood native and the former Arkansas player of the year Archie Goodwin led Kentucky with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting for Kentucky.

The Arkansas bench outscored Kentucky 26-6.

The Hogs travel to Missouri on Tuesday.
