Cedarville police collected several guns after bullets struck a garage door and car Sunday afternoon.

Police Chief David Goss said his department received a report at approximately 5 p.m. on the 100 block of Kyle Drive. The police originally requested assistance from the state police and county until the scope of the incident was determined.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., Cedarville police made contact with a neighbor who said he had been shooting at a pond at approximately 1 p.m. but told officers he had gone back to his house about an hour later. Goss said the pond was about 600 yards away from the garage and car that were struck by bullets.

Goss said the man voluntarily gave his guns to the police, who plan to do ballistics tests to see if any fired the bullets recovered from the car and garage. Goss said he wasn’t sure of the number of guns collected, but it was a mixture of rifles and handguns.

The man was not taken in custody.

Goss said the investigation will continue. He said he wasn’t prepared to call the shooting an accident until the investigation was complete.
