The Southside High School Theatre Department in Fort Smith will host a memorial for Vincent DesOrmeaux, 17, who collapsed on the University of Arkansas Fort Smith campus Sunday and later died.

DesOrmeaux was a junior at Southside and part of the theatre program.

The memorial service will begin at 3:15 p.m. at the school’s auditorium on Gary Street.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Lewis Funeral Chapel on Kelley Highway. Visitation will be on between 5:30-7 p.m., Friday and between 8 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The teen started feeling dizzy and vomiting foam while playing Frisbee golf with friends at UAFS Sunday, according to his mother Deborah DesOrmeaux.  He collapsed and was rushed to Mercy Hospital where emergency medical staff tried to revive him, but he never started breathing again.

“We still don’t know what happened, but his heart just stopped,” his mother said.

She says the teen was feeling fine before.

A memorial fund has been set up to help with funeral costs. Donations can be made to the “Vincent DesOrmeaux Memorial Fund” at any branch of First National Bank Fort Smith or Citizens Bank & Trust Van Buren.

Southside Rebel Theatre will also dedicate all three shows of their spring production, “Anything Goes,” to DesOrmeaux’s memory. He would have portrayed “Sir Evelyn Oakleigh” in the musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter.

Performances are at 7 p.m. on March 15-16 and at 2 p.m on March 17.  Guests will also have the opportunity to donate to the memorial fund.
