A sudden downdraft caused a single-engine plane to crash land at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the Rogers Municipal Airport.

None of the four people on the plane were injured, said officials with the Rogers Fire Department. The rough landing nearly sheared off the right wing, which caused a fuel leak when the plane slid off the runway.

Fire fighters doused the plane with retardant foam as a precaution to prevent a fuel fire, officials said. The landing gear was also cracked, officials said, from the hard landing.

The plane had a two-man crew and two passengers and originated from Chattanooga, Tenn., officials said.

The airport, with one runway, would be closed until the plane was cleared from the site, an official said. The Rogers Fire Department was helping with the plane's removal.
