A Bentonville man turned himself in about three hours after initially barricading himself inside a home with a gun Tuesday afternoon, police say.

The Bentonville Police Department responded to 2805 S.W. Tanglewood Ave. and began taping off the immediate area shortly after noon, police said.

The man who had barricaded himself inside the home peacefully gave himself up to police at about 3 p.m., police said. He was arrested, and no one was injured. No one else was inside the house, police told 5NEWS.

The suspect was transferred to a local hospital for medical treatment. The man had threatened to shoot himself, according to Bentonville police.

Jon and Emily Bell are listed on the property record for the house. There was no indication from police early Tuesday afternoon that the man in the house was Jon Bell.

Meanwhile, Bentonville Public Schools phoned the district's bus dispatcher and ordered three school buses headed to the area of the standoff to turn back and return to the schools, said May Ley, district spokeswoman. One of the buses had come from Mary Mae Jones Elementary, Ley said. She was unsure early Tuesday afternoon where the two other buses had come from.

Ley said parents were being asked to go to the schools in that area to pick up their children.
