The Literacy Committee of the Junior League of Fort Smith teamed up with the Fort Smith Public Library to hold the Carnival of Books on Sunday (March 17).

Children had the opportunity to do craft projects, play some games and there was also story time. The goal of the open house was to give children a jump start on their reading skills.

"Teaching the kids how enjoyable it is to read and to get those skills started early so when they get into the normal routine of life, this is something they can look back on and have fun and know that it is awesome to read and have a lot of fun doing it," said Amanda Tolbert, of the Junior League.
