Fort Smith's Evangel Temple fed more than 1,000 people in need Sunday (March 17).

The church held its annual Grocery Giveaway. There were no papers to fill out or questions asked, just bags of groceries distributed.

The program is made possible by donations from inside and outside the church. Senior pastor Don Hutchings said the giveaway is a blessing each year and not just to those receiving the groceries.

"Our church enjoys this more than the people getting the food," Hutchings said. "You know, the Bible says it's more blessed to give than to receive. We've really found that to be true."

The church has held the giveaway program for 23 years and estimated that it has fed more than 125,000 people.
