A major problem area in Fayetteville could soon see a solution, the Fayetteville City Council is set to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday (March 19) to make a decision regarding the Wedington Corridor Project.

The goal of the project is to ease traffic congestion and make the area more pedestrian friendly.

City employees are also looking to fix safety issues west of the intersection of Wedington Drive and Interstate 540.

Drivers say congestion is a huge problem in that area.

The project`s master plan includes adding a “jug handle” that would loop drivers all the way around to where the left hand turn takes you right now.

The plan also includes replacing traffic lights on the west side with a roundabout so traffic does not have to come to a complete stop.

There's also a proposed pedestrian and cyclist side path to go along the street.

According to city officials, 30,000 vehicles pass by that area each day.
