Sequoyah County deputies are searching for a man who they say robbed the Gans, Okla., Git-N-Go convenience store late Sunday night (March 24).
Sheriff Ron Lockhart said just before 10 p.m. a man in a ski mask armed with a handgun entered store along on Highway 64 just outside Gans, locked a store employee in a walk-in cooler and left with an unknown amount of money.
"I opened the drawer, handed him the money, he left, came back in, gun to my face again, and said "Go to the cooler,' I went to the cooler, waited for a few minutes, came out and called 911," said Carrie Skiver, the employee who was working at the time.
The suspect is described as a white middle-aged man, approximately 5-foot-10. weighing 200 pounds, Lockhart said. The suspect was wearing a green Carhart jacket and blue jeans, Lockhart said.
No one was injured in the incident. Skiver said she waited in the cooler, hoping the man wouldn't shoot her.
"I was scared but it was more along the lines of 'just give him what he wants, don't hinder anything,' when he came back the second time and walked me to the cooler that's when I thought, 'Oh my gosh, is he going to kill me?'" she said.
Store manager Jeri Crow said she usually leaves the door unlocked late at night, but says she'll reconsider after the robbery.
"Its kinda crazy," she said. "We're just a small country store. Everyone knows everyone around here, and that kinda stuff doesn't happen here, so whenever I got the text this morning, I was shocked and surprised. I'll be anxious to see who actually did it because everyone's friends around here."
