A Drug Task Force officer died Tuesday night while chasing a man suspected of violating parole in Clarksville.

Fifth Judicial District Drug Task Force Director Larry Johnson conducted a home visit to check in on a parolee. The man ran off, and Johnson collapsed while chasing him, according to the Clarksville Police Department.

The suspect faces charges of parole violation. Police are investigating Johnson’s death to determine whether the suspect may face any additional charges.

Officers on the task force sometimes visit those on probation or parole to make sure they are complying with parole and probation restrictions.

Police said they do not believe the suspect did anything to cause Johnson’s death, other than flee.

Johnson, 65, was from Clarksville.

The Fifth Judicial Drug Task Force includes Johnson, Franklin and Pope counties.
