Road construction crews will replace the existing Interstate 540 bridge over Highway 22 on Friday, March 29.

Southbound traffic will be diverted to the existing northbound lanes of I-540 from north of Highway 22, or Rogers Avenue, to south of the Cliff Drive overpass, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The traffic pattern change will begin at 8 p.m. Friday.

Northbound and southbound traffic will be separated by a temporary concrete barrier wall. Temporary ramps will allow access to the Highway 22 interchange.

The completion of the entire I-540 construction project between Fort Smith and Van Buren is expected in mid-2014.
