Two Northwest Arkansas men were sentenced Friday to a combined 43 years in prison after each pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.
Cody Malone, 26, and Byron Lara, 24, were sentenced in federal court in Fayetteville. Malone received a sentence of 30 years in prison, 15 years of supervised release and a $25,000 fine.
Springdale police arrested Malone last June after parents told police their two 14-year-old girls had been solicited by Malone to send him nude pictures and sexual acts, according to U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge’s office. After arresting Malone, detectives found a video on his cell phone of the suspect having sex with a 15-year-old girl, police said.
Police said Malone admitted the accusations to detectives. He pleaded guilty in October to federal charges of producing child pornography.
Lara received a 13-year prison sentence, along with five years of supervised release and a $7,500 fine. Police said they discovered 200 videos of minors engaging in sexual acts while executing a search warrant at Lara’s home in 2011. The suspect pleaded guilty last September to federal charges of receipt of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
