A not guilty plea was entered on behalf of a Leflore County man accused of beating his father to death.

An initial court appearance was held for Tim Lockaby, 51, Friday. He faces in a first degree murder charge in the death of his father 87-year-old Buck Lockaby.

Lockaby remains in the Leflore County Jail under suicide watch without bond. Jail administrator Claude Jones says Lockaby showed early signs of suicidal tendencies so they segregated him from the jail population and put him under watch.

Lockaby is expected to appear in court again on April 26. At that time an attorney may be appointed to him.

The preliminary autopsy report showed Buck Lockaby sustained blunt force trauma to various parts of his body on March 29, Sheriff Rob Seale said.

Officers responded to a 911 call from a family member who had gone to the home off Williams Road that evening to check on Buck who lived with his son.

Seale said officers found Buck dead and Lockaby at the scene. Seale said officers have interviewed Lockaby twice, once after his initial arrest and the second time Saturday evening before he was charged and taken to jail.

Seale said the home was in Panama, but the arresting officer told detention officials it was in neighboring Cameron.

Seale said Lockaby had served 15 years in prison for what he said was a sexual offense against a child but Seale did not have the specifics when he spoke to 5NEWS.
