The government's sequestration is causing budget cuts for head start programs across the country. One Benton County woman is doing her part to help head start by fundraising.

Gwendolyn Robards is selling food and refreshments with all the proceeds going to the center. She volunteered at the Benton County Head Start as part of a class and began hearing about the lack of money to buy supplies and how they might have to cut the program a month early.

"That's cutting a month of their education and it’s just heartbreaking because my twins went there last year and when it comes to the children it's just really unfortunate," Robards said.

She says she's already raised about $1,000 and will continue fundraising.

Head Start is a non-profit pre-school program.
