A naked man is in custody after police say he dragged a Fort Smith officer along his car before causing a crash and launching through a windshield.

Police responded to a car crash Friday night near on Phoenix Avenue in Fort Smith in which a witness said a naked driver caused the crash. When Capt. Edward Smalley approached the naked suspect’s car, the suspect grabbed Smalley and accelerated the vehicle, dragging Smalley for a short distance before the officer was able to kick loose, police said.

A police chase ensued, with the suspect’s vehicle traveling at about 50 miles per hour in a 30-miles-per-hour speed zone. During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle crossed the street’s center lane and struck a silver-colored car head-on, police said.

The naked suspect and a passenger were launched through the windshield and later taken to the hospital. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Fort Smith Police Department.

No one else was injured in the incident. The suspect faces several charges.
