Fort Smith police picked up the first of 30 tools that will help them more quickly open locked doors in an emergency.

Home Depot is donating the wrecking bars which will be placed in every Fort Smith patrol unit according to Chief Kevin Lindsey.

Lindsey says in the past, officers in emergency situations, have had to literally kick a door in.

These tools will benefit his officers, as well as home and business owners.

“It will make it a lot safer entry procedure for the officer,” he said. “It will reduce damage to door frames and just make things a lot easier all the way around.”

Chief Lindsey says budgets don't always cover all the equipment officers need, so he appreciates this donation from Home Depot.
