Post offices are seeing a last minute rush to get taxes in on time for the April 15 deadline.

It has been a busy day for post offices in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.

Fayetteville postmaster Jeremiah Coffey says even though it's a busy Monday, the number of people submitting their taxes online has increased in the internet age.

In case you miss the post office hours don't panic, there are automated postal centers inside open 24/7 that will postmark your letter until midnight for Monday’s date.

Postmasters are urging taxpayers not to overlook common mistakes when sending their tax payment.

"Make sure that they have a legible writing and if they are going to put the postage on themselves,” Coffey said. “Just make absolutely sure that it’s the right amount of postage so that we can get it home and it won't come back as postage do

The IRS will wait for your return until Oct. 15,  but that's only if you file for an automatic extension. This can be done online or with a tax expert.
