Sebastian County Quorum court members approved the appropriation for the project Tuesday (April 16) meaning that the city and county will move forward with the project.
"I was relieved, frankly, that we went ahead and fulfilled our commitment to the citizens of Sebastian County to move forward with the project,” said Judge David Hudson.
It also means that the water park will have all of the amenities as approved by voters including both the dive well and the large lazy river.
“It will be similar to Concept B that everybody wanted,” said Danny Aldridge, justice of the peace. “There will be some changes to make it more user friendly to all ages."
From here Hudson says they'll finalize a plan with the contractor.
"Our plan will be to go ahead and spec out the facility with all of the amenities in it - the larger lazy river and the dive well - and get the actual cost and then see where it falls in regards to the $8 million budget," Hudson said.
The county expected the park to be open to the public by Memorial Day 2014, but that depends on how fast the construction company can get to work.
