According to a National Climatic Data Center report from March 2013, Northwest Arkansas needed to pick up between 6″ and 9″ of rain in April to end the ongoing drought. After the several rain events this past week, we may have temporarily broken the dry spell which started over a year ago in some locations.

The Climate Prediction Center Forecast for Summer 2013 is looking to drier and warmer than normal conditions but this April has proven much more soggy rainwise than last year, so we’re off to a good start. Here’ s a look at the month-to-date rainfall totals as well as the storm event totals from today’s  (April 18th) rainfall event.

April Month to Date:

Northwest Arkansas Regional:

  • April 2013: 4.56″
  • April 2012: 1.94″
  • Normal: 4.57″

Fayetteville:

  • April 2013: 3.84″
  • April 2012: 2.15″
  • Normal:: 4.57″

Fort Smith:

  • April 2013: 2.62″
  • April 2012: 2.99″
  • Normal: 4.30″

Northwest Arkansas April 18th Rain Event:

  • Springdale: 5.31″
  • Rogers: 5.19″
  • Gravette: 3.91″
  • Bentonville 3.85″
  • Garfield: 3.05″
  • NWA Regional: 2.93″
  • Eureka Springs: 2.42″
  • Siloam Springs: 2.33″
  • Fayetteville: 1.79″
  • West Fork: 1.42″

River Valley April 18th Rain Event:

  • Sallisaw: 1.43″
  • Clarksville 1.08″
  • Spiro: 1.06″
  • Poteau: .84″
  • Fort Smith: .74″
  • Waldron: .65″
  • Lavaca .64″
  • Booneville: .62″

Another chance for widespread rain will move into the region on Tuesday (April 23rd) of next week with additional rain possible.
