A 69-year-old Fort Smith woman was treated by medical officials early Thursday morning (April 18) after a drive-by shooting was reported at her home, police say.

The woman suffered minor injury to her right eye, believed to have been caused by debris as bullets hit the resident in the 1400 block of Belle Avenue, according to a police report.

The homeowners told police five to seven shots were fired just after 4:30 a.m. by two black males in a dark colored four door passenger car. The homeowner told police he saw the vehicle stop in front of the home before the shots were fired. At least four suspected bullet holes were found near a bedroom window of the home, police say.

The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a dispute involving the homeowner’s young grandson, according to police.

The woman was treated on the scene by EMS, but was not taken to the hospital.
