Benton County held its annual Spring Cleanup on Saturday at three locations.

Residents were asked to bring large items to locations in Bentonville, Garfield and Decatur between 8 a.m. and noon for disposal. Citizens could also bring documents for shredding or hazardous waste materials.

John Sudduth, an administrator with Benton County’s General Services department, said people lined up to drop off items 90 minutes before the Bentonville location opened at 8 a.m. Volunteers, including inmates from the Benton County Detention Center, helped collect and sort dropped-off items.

“The citizens took full advantage to get rid of a lot of stuff,” Sudduth said. “If it wasn’t the largest, it was comparable to any we have had. We had to open the gates early.”

The Bentonville location also accepted reusable items for donation to Habitat For Humanity. The organization is in need of bicycles and household items that were in good condition.

The cleanup is annual event for residents and there is no charge for the disposal of items. Sudduth said the county wouldn’t have a full accounting of how much was collected until Monday.
