A Springdale man accused of raping an eight-year-old girl died Tuesday night after jumping off of a hospital parking deck, police say.
Justin Mahn, 38, was arrested April 19 on suspicion of first-degree rape and sexual assault of a child. He was later released from the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond.
Authorities responded to the parking deck of the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale on Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m., police said. An investigation showed Mahn jumped from the third level of the parking deck and landed on Allen Street, according to Springdale police.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries a few hours later, police said.
Mahn’s motorcycle was later found on the third level of the parking deck.
A preliminary police report said the girl was interviewed by investigators with the Arkansas State Police on Friday at the Children’s Safety Center.
The girl told investigators Mahn would touch her inappropriately, the report said. The report said Mahn and the juvenile would take baths together.
The report said Springdale officers found Mahn “very deceptive” and he didn’t answer their questions after being read his Miranda rights. The officer said he asked Mahn how the allegations might affect the girl, and Mahn replied that he was “not a psychiatrist,” the report said.
