Cedarville Rolling Into Regionals

Pirates find themselves ranked in the top 10 heading into next week’s postseason tournament at Greenland.

Cedarville’s baseball program has come a long way over the past few seasons.

The Pirates went from having to use a baseball field in a neighboring town to being the top 3A team in Northwest Arkansas. Cedarville (12-2) has already locked in the top seed for next week’s regional tournament at Greenland.

But how they turned the program around depends on who you ask.

“It’s based around pitching,” senior Tyler Mowrey said. “We’ve got really good starting pitching and then our batting lineup is really, really good. We can all hit the ball 1-9 and we score runs on people.”

“We are really based around hitting the ball and our pitching,” senior Zach Myers added.

Whether it’s hitting or pitching, the Pirates have both and are looking to build off of the momentum heading into postseason play.

“They are going to have better pitchers and these upcoming games are going to be a lot better than the teams we play so we just need to continue to put the bat on the ball,” senior Zach Bradford said.

The turnaround did not happen overnight for Cedarville and coach Terry Parks has been there to see it all.

“All the boys get along real well,” Parks said. “They’ve stuck with us for three years in the lean years and really worked hard.”

“Mainly just our work ethic,” Mowrey added. “We are taking it a lot more serious this year and tried to come out, do well, have good games and that’s what happened so far.”

The Pirates will take on Elkins Thursday in a makeup of a previously scheduled 3A-1 game.
