Fayetteville Baseball Chases State Title

The Fayetteville Baseball team is 13-0 in conference play and 19-2 overall.

The Fayetteville Baseball team is having one of their best seasons in program history.  The team is 13-0 in conference play and has only lost two games all season.

"The seniors set the tone for the young kids," said Head Coach Vance Arnold.  "Being 13-0 and 19-2 overall is a compliment to our senior class."

The nine seniors on the team have been playing together since little league.  Being teammates for such a long time is one of the reasons they are currently the No. 1 team in the state and No. 10 team in the nation.

"We have chemistry," said senior Logan Hiatt.  "I know these guys, I hang out with them on the weekend.  We know what it takes and we know each others tendencies to put us in a good position to win a state championship."

The Fayetteville baseball program has won five state titles.  They won four in a row from 2006-2009. No one on this years team was part of those state championships so winning a title this year is their ultimate goal.

"We want to accomplish a state championship," said senior Will Price.  "We want to get another banner out on the center field wall and make our part of history and join the rest of the great teams at Fayetteville High."

With every great team their is usually a great coach and Fayetteville baseball is no exception.  Coach Arnold has been the coach since the team started in 1985 and on March 12th he won his 500th game.

"Half the stuff we do out here wouldn't happen without him," said Hiatt.  "He sets up everything, he is the brains behind the program. He loves kids, he loves baseball, he is just a great man."

The team has one conference match-up with Bentonville on May 2nd.  Those are the only two conference games remaining that stand between them and a perfect season.
