A River Valley man who suffered cuts to his head when his car crashed into a chicken store early Friday morning (May 3) has been released from the hospital.

Jonathan Sevenstar, 21, drove a Ford Taurus with passenger Brittany Qualls, 19, nearly all the way through the Poultry Direct at the corner of Zero Street and Highway 271 around 1 a.m., according to Sgt. Brandon Byrd with the Fort Smith Police Department.

Sevenstar allegedly told officers we was on his way back from the casino and was upset he lost money, according to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs.

“He felt like he was concentrating on losing all of his money and he was upset and kind of basically in a fog and veered off the road and hit the business,” he said.

Police are waiting for the results of the toxicology reports to determine if charges will be filed, police said.

The drive through and kitchen area were damaged at Poultry Direct. Employees worked to clean up the damage after Sevenstar hit several freezers of poultry.

“You really don't know what to think cause you're just stunned when you have so many years in this building and then all of the sudden it’s all messed up,” said store manager Renee Parker. “All of the customers that rely on us, we've had to tell them we're not here. Well we are, but we can't sell them anything.”

The store will be closed until further notice. However there are other Poultry Direct locations in Fort Smith and Van Buren.

Sevenstar suffered some minor cuts and bruises and a possible broken orbital bone in the accident, according to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs. Qualls has minor cuts and bruises. The two were taken to Sparks Hospital for treatment.
