A Fort Smith man was rushed to the hospital Friday morning (May 10) after two men reportedly beat him with a baseball bat.

Police were called to some apartments at 319 N. 6th Street where they found a man in a yard who had been beaten.

He told police two white men beat him with a ball bat and took $130 from him.

Captain Levi Risley says the case is now in the hands of the criminal investigation division.

There were several witnesses,” he said. “They provided some information about what had occurred, but they’re still looking into it.”

Police are also looking into whether this beating could have been in retaliation for a rape that was reported at these same apartments the night before.

A 36-year-old Fort Smith woman reported she had been raped by a man there around 11:30 Thursday night after returning from a party with a group of men.
