The late Lowell Police Chief Joe Landers was honored with a motorcycle memorial ride Saturday (May 10) at the JB Hunt Senior Activity Center. Landers died May 4, 2012 from injuries he suffered after a drunk driver crashed into him while he was riding his motorcycle in April.

Dozens of riders rode to remember Landers' life and raise money for one of his favorite charities, Toys for Tots. The ride started in Lowell, continued down Highway 62 to Eureka Springs before heading back. It took about two and a half hours to complete.

"We really appreciate people coming out for it," said Bill Carver, president for the Arkansas Blue Knights Lowell Chapter.

The memorial ride started with a moment of silence and family and friends were emotional.

"The chief left a great legacy," Carver said. "He was the Chief of Police here in Lowell for several years and when i was still working for the State Police I had the opportunity to work with him on and off at different times."

"His men and women that worked for him appreciated what he did and I know that the City of Lowell did as well," Carver said.

Carver said they hope to make the memorial ride a yearly event.
