Rogers police on Monday (June 3) identified the man who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase early Friday, according to a police department news release.

Richard Adam Peak, 31, of Springdale shot himself after leading police on a chase that began about 2:07 a.m. on May 31, according to the release.

The officers involved in the incident were Sgt. Brad Pollock, and 19-year veteran, and Officer Brandon Dill, a three-year veteran, according to police.

The pursuit began after the driver of a gray 1993 Toyota pickup that police had been following pulled over at the north end of Lake Atlanta Park near the Highway 12 entrance, police said.

When officers tried to make contact, the driver drove off, reaching speeds of 50 mph, police said.

The chase continued east of the Highway 12 bridge near Heritage Bay Road, where police said the pickup stopped in the middle of the road.

When the pickup stopped, officers reported hearing a gunshot from inside the truck, and returned fire. The pickup rolled off the road and came to a stop near the shoulder, police said.

When officers approached the pickup, they said the driver was found to have an apparent self-inflicted, fatal, gunshot wound.

The Rogers Police Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police are investigating the incident, the news release states.
