State Rep. Debra Hobbs of Rogers has set a date for later this month to announce formally that she is running for governor, she said Tuesday (June 4).

Hobbs, a Republican, is scheduled to kick off her candidacy on June 17 at 6 p.m. in Frisco Park in Rogers, she said. If the weather is bad, she will hold the announcement event indoors at the Center for Non-Profits at 1200 W. Walnut St. in Rogers, she said.

Hobbs’ 36th wedding anniversary to her husband, Ray, president and CEO of Daisy Outdoor, falls on June 17, she said.

That date also marks one month since the end of the 2013 legislative session. Legislators are prohibited from raising campaign funds 30 days before or after the session.

Republicans Asa Hutchinson and Curtis Coleman, and Democrats Mike Ross and Bill Halter, have entered the race.

Gov. Mike Beebe, a Democrat, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election.

The general election is in November 2014.
