Oklahoma had been on a mission for 12 months.

The Sooners lost in the Women’s College World Series finals last season to Alabama but there would not be a repeat of that.

Oklahoma beat Tennessee 4-0 Tuesday to sweep the finals and win their first national championship since 2000.

Keilani Ricketts hit a three-run home run in the third inning to put Oklahoma (57-4) in front and pitcher Michelle Gascoigne did the rest. Gascoigne struck out 12 including the game’s final batter to pick up the win.  She allowed just three hits, lowered her season ERA to 0.88 and faced just two above the minimum.

Oklahoma looked to be in trouble in game one as they fell behind 3-0 in the 11th inning on Monday but they scored three runs in the bottom of the 11th to tie the game. The Sooners then got a two-run, walk off home run from Lauren Chamberlain to win 5-3 in 12 innings.

The Sooners outscored their 10 postseason opponents 91-16. Oklahoma led the nation with a 1.18 team ERA and scoring at 7.87 runs per game.
