Arkansas All-American pitcher Ryne Stanek was expected to be a top pick in the 2013 MLB pick, but it took a while to hear his name called Thursday night. Stanek was selected with the 29th overall pick by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Stanek is the seventh Razorback in school history to be drafted in the first round and the third pitcher in school history to go in the first round.He is also the fourth UA player taken in the first round over the last seven seasons.
In his three seasons at Arkansas, Stanek has developed into one of the most dominant pitchers in college baseball. He finished the season with a 10-2 record and a 1.39 ERA in 16 starts. Stanek currently leads the SEC and ranks ninth nationally in ERA. His 1.39 ERA is the third-lowest single-season ERA in school history, while his 10 victories are tied for the ninth most in a season. In 97.1 innings pitched, Stanek allowed 23 runs, 15 earned, on 72 hits and struck out 79 batters. Opponents hit .207 against Stanek. In 11 starts vs. SEC opponents, Stanek had an 8-1 record with a 0.86 ERA. Stanek allowed two or fewer earned runs in 14 of his 16 starts and allowed one earned run or less in 10 of 11 starts vs. SEC opponents.
