Fort Smith police arrested a man wanted in connection with a shooting June 3.

Police announced they arrested Daniel Elon Bell, 25, early Saturday morning. Police said they received reliable information Bell was at a home on the 900 block of North 35th Street and the police’s SWAT team made the arrest there.

Bell was booked in the Sebastian County Detention Center and faces charges of aggravated residential burglary, aggravated robbery, being a felon in possession of a firearm and first-degree battery. Bell has a bond amount of $500,000.

An arrest warrant was issued for Bell after a shooting Monday at the Village South Apartment Complex on Towson Avenue, police officials said.

The victim, 42-year-old John D. Smith, Jr., told police he heard a knock at his door around 10 p.m., and when he answered it, a suspect forced his way inside the apartment, according to Sgt. Gerald Schaefer.

Police said the man demanded money, but Smith refused. Smith told investigators the suspect shot him at least once in leg, and left without taking anything.

Luddell Smith, the victim’s brother, said the suspect was known to the family.

Smith told 5NEWS his brother was shot in both legs, and his shin bone was shattered. He said it appeared he was shot twice in both legs. Smith said his brother is not in critical condition, but said he can’t walk and underwent surgery at a local hospital.
