Sallisaw native Matt Oberste will get a chance to take his talents to the next level.
The Oklahoma first baseman was picked by the New York Mets with pick No. 206. Oberste leads the Sooners with a .377 batting average while also leading the team in hits (90), doubles (19), home runs (11), RBI (60) and is tied for the lead with four triples. Oberste is slugging .628.
The Sooners are in the Baton Rouge super regional against LSU this weekend. Oklahoma managed just three base runners in the series opening loss to LSU but Oberste accounted for two of those runners (double, HBP).
Oberste will have a year of eligibility left with the Sooners so he could return to school if he decides not to sign with the Mets.
