A state Motor Vehicle Commission employee was arrested early Thursday morning in Fayetteville after police say he raped a relative at a local hotel.
Danny Holmes, 62, of Little Rock, faces felony charges of rape and first-degree false imprisonment. He was released Thursday afternoon from the Washington County Detention Center on $50,000 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Holmes has a July 12 arraignment date. Holmes is an investigator for the Arkansas State Motor Vehicle Commission, according to the agency’s website.
A local woman told police Holmes, a relative, came to visit her Wednesday night, and the two consumed several drinks at an area bar. Holmes encouraged the woman to stay with him at his hotel room, saying she was too drunk to drive, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
The two were laying in separate beds at the Comfort Inn and Suites on Steamboat Drive. They began joking, and the alleged victim kicked at Holmes, the woman told police. Holmes, after saying sexually explicit things to the woman, got on top of the woman and tried to kiss her, she told officers.
The alleged victim kept telling Holmes “no,” but he continued to pin her down and kiss her neck, the preliminary report states. Holmes then allegedly removed the woman’s shirt and underwear and sexually assaulted her, the report states.
The woman was able to get away from Holmes by striking him and ran to the hotel’s front desk to call police, according to the preliminary report. Responding officers noticed blood on Holmes and bruises on the woman.
Holmes told police he had been “wrestling” with the woman, but that he did not sexually assault her, according to the report. He also told police he may have not acted appropriately with the woman, the report states.
After the interview, Holmes was arrested and transported to jail.
