Monday was qualifying day at the LPGA NWA Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.
Two local Arkansas Razorback golfers were among those trying to make the field. Fayetteville High School graduate and Hog senior-to-be Emma Lavy came up just two shots short of qualifying, finishing with a 1-over 73. Two golfers made the tournament.
“It’s always a good experience,” said Lavy. “I’m lucky to do it and see these girls and play with this talent.”
Lavy has tried to qualify for the tournament before, but this was the closest she’s ever come to making the field.
“Every year I do it I feel like I get better and I learn a ton,” she said. “You have to always stay in it. I shot 73 and I only missed it by two.”
Arkansas freshman-to-be Summer Roachell is just 18 years old and from Conway. She shot a 77 and also did not qualify. But she still takes away positives from the experience.
“Any time you have the opportunity to play in an LPGA event it’s something special,” said Roachell. “Hopefully I’ll take advantage of the opportunities in the coming years, but it’s definitely a good learning experience for me. I take a lot of positives from this. I’ll keep moving forward and hopefully I’ll be back again next year.”
Sophomore-to-be Gabby Lopez was granted a sponsor’s exemption and will play Friday in the event.
