The Scott County Quorum Court appointed Amie Carpenter to fill the term of her recently-deceased husband Cody Carpenter, who died May 31 trying to save two women from their house during major flooding that swept through the county.
"Quorum Court went into executive session," said Judge James Forbes. "When they came out, they elected to appoint Sheriff Carpenters wife to fulfill his term."
Forbes said he knows what Cody Carpenter would tell his widowed wife Amie.
“I think Cody would tell Amie to drive on; it’s yours do a good job. He’d be proud of her,” Forbes said.
Those who attended the meeting said Carpenter will have a tough job ahead of her.
“It’s going to be a hard job to fill, but somebody will step up to the plate,” said William Bates.
Forbes said this will not only help Scott County, but Sheriff Amie Carpenter heal as well.
Amie Carpenter was not at the meeting but is set to serve as sheriff until 2014.
