The 48th Daisy National BB Gun Championship match ended Sunday (June 30) with hundreds of young competitors between the ages of 8 and 15.
Cheyann Burke, 13, said it’s her second time in her three years competing at the Daisy Nationals that she has received a perfect score.
“I thought I made like a 98, but when I heard I made a 100, I was so excited,” Burke said.
Young shooters competed for the top medals and the highest points.
Daisy partners with the National Rifle Association, which provides the staff for the matches.
“You’ve got 370-plus kids here in 54 teams representing the U.S. in BB gun, which is amazing and wonderful,” said H.Q. Moody with the National Rifle Association.
Moody said the BB championship is the grassroots for young shooters.
“They are learning discipline, they are learning organization, they’re learning integrity, they’re learning the skills that they need to be better citizens of our country and it’s right here in this environment that they are doing that,” Moody said.
To get to this championship many teams had to raise money and competed in other matches.
“Before you get here you have to go to state,” said Ty Brazier, 11 from Georgia. “If you do really well, you can qualify for Nationals.”
Brazier said it takes a lot of concentration to hit the bull’s eye.
“You have to be really relaxed and just think about where you want to put that BB,” Brazier said.
Burke said it’s an experience she’ll never forget.
“That’s the main reason why I like doing BB because the feeling of winning and all my trophies I get and medals, it’s amazing,” Burke said.

Silver Medal: Highmore, South Dakota.
