Former Arkansas linebacker and team captain Tenarius Wright was arrested on a charge of suspicion of driving while intoxicated Sunday morning.

Wright, 23, was booked in the Washington County Detention Center at 9:15 a.m. and released on $1,055 bond at 11:51 a.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office website. Wright has a July 26 court date and faces misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated, violation of implied consent, having no license plate light and driving a vehicle with an obstructed view, according to a preliminary police report.

The report said a Fayetteville officer saw SUV driving on Maple Avenue and swerve in its own lane at approximately 2:50 a.m. Sunday, and the officer observed that the vehicle did not have a light illuminating the license plate. After pulling the car over, the officer said the driver, identified as Wright, had watery bloodshot eyes and there was a smell of alcohol coming from the driver, the report said.

The officer said the SUV that Wright was driving had two cracks in the windshield in the driver’s line of sight, the report said.

The officer said Wright told him he had had a couple of beers earlier, and Wright performed poorly on a field sobriety test, the report said. The report said, after being arrested and taken to the detention center, Wright refused to submit to a breathalyzer.

Wright played defensive end and linebacker for the Razorbacks from 2009-12 and is currently trying to hook on with an NFL team as an undrafted free agent. Wright played defensive end for three seasons before moving to middle linebacker as a senior.

Wright, of Memphis, played five games as a senior before sustaining a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery. Wright finished his career with 123 tackles and 9 sacks.
