Fayetteville workers will soon begin repairing a road they say is constantly damaged by a landslides and rainfall from recent storms.
Rodgers Drive, just south of Lighton Trail, will undergo major repair work for almost three months, starting July 22. The Fayetteville Engineering Division expects the project to be completed by Oct. 4.
Damage from a landslide recently cut the road down to one lane. Workers are seeking to restore the road to two lanes with the construction, according to the City Engineering Division.
The road has been infamous with neighbors and motorists, who often prepare for flooding and damage to Rodgers Road whenever rains and storms move through the area. City officials had to close down Rogers Drive on April 9 for emergency repairs, as they worked to install a drainage pipe to alleviate rainfall damage.
City administrators agreed the same month to use $250,000 of City Council-appropriated money to repair a slope failure on the ground surrounding the road. City engineer Chris Brown said the repair, while more costly, is a better long-term plan than temporarily patching the road.
