A Little Rock police officer shot and killed a suspect in a vehicle theft Monday (July 15), (July 15) according to a report from THV 11.

The incident took place at 12th and Jefferson Streets when officers attempted to stop a stolen black sports utility vehicle. The suspect, who appeared to be arm, got out and ran. Police tell THV 11 that there was some sort of altercation between the officers and the suspect.

At least one officer fired two or three rounds, striking and killing the unidentified suspect, THV 11 reports. A weapon, which did not belong to officers, was recovered at the scene. The officer was not injured and is placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Witnesses on the scene say a crowd gathered at the scene and began yelling “Trayvon Martin” and spitting on people, THV 11 reports. Some people at the scene were calling for justice for Bobby Moore, who was shot and killed in 2012 by a Little Rock police officer.

Initially there were reports that the suspect was a black teen circulating among the nearly 100 people who gathered at the scene. But police say the man was in his 30s. For more information visit
