A Hilton Hotel is going up in one of the fastest growing parts of Northwest Arkansas.

Crews broke ground on the Hilton Garden Inn on Wedington Drive in Fayetteville Tuesday (July 23).

The hotel will have 115 rooms, a convention center and a restaurant called the Great American Grill.

The developer also owns the Holiday Inn Express and Homewood Suites which neighbor this property. The 8,000 square foot convention center is expected to connect all three hotels.

For the last couple of years the city has been working on the Waddington Corridor to revamp and redesign this area along Wedington Drive. City officials say this hotel is located in one of the fastest growing areas in Fayetteville.

"Lots of residential houses going up, lots of new businesses going up,” said Steve Clark with the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. “This hotel will create, with a meeting space that it’s also going to have a location, a destination location for tourism groups, conference groups, professional groups which is very good for Fayetteville because they bring money.”

The hotel will create at least 50 jobs. Construction is expected to be completed in 12 to 14 months.

City officials also expect an increase in sales tax revenue and a boost in customers for businesses in the area.
