Investigators believe lightning from an early morning thunderstorm caused a house fire in Bentonville early Wednesday (July 24).

Firefighters were called to the home located at 1508 Northeast Benjamin Greens around 5 a.m., according to Fire Marshall James Burchfield. Crews from four fire stations fought the flames for about 40 minutes before it was completely knocked down.

No one was home at the time. Burchfield says the family was out of town on vacation.

The house is considered a total loss. A neighboring house also suffered heat damage to the siding.
