Springdale Men Arrested Separate Sexual Assault Cases

Springdale police have arrested two men in separate sexual assault investigations.

David Mejia-Rivera, 33, was arrested on counts of rape Tuesday (July 23), according to police. Mejia-Rivera was having a consensual sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl, police say.

Also on Tuesday, Springdale Detectives arrested 30-year-old Jose Varela-Lopez for Sexual Assault 1st Degree and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

Police say Varela-Lopez began having sex with a 15-year-old in Mexico and brought her to the United States where the relationship continued.

The teen never attended school, according to police.

Both men were taken to the Washington County Detention Center where they are awaiting bond hearings.
