Police caught up Friday with a Farmington paper delivery man they say kidnapped a pregnant woman, robbed her at gunpoint and ran over her leg with his vehicle.

Jimmy Morell, 29, was arrested Friday on suspicion of aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, kidnapping, battery, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He remains in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman told police Morell picked her up in his vehicle July 14 while she was walking along U.S. Highway 62 in Farmington. The suspect asked the woman if she would help him deliver newspapers and offered her $20, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

The woman said Morell then pulled a gun on her at a stop light and tried to rob her. She struggled with the suspect while trying to get out of the vehicle, according to the preliminary report. The gun went off, but no one was hurt. The woman fled the vehicle, but Morell then ran over her leg, the report states.

The woman ran to a nearby property and called the police, who responded to the scene and discovered flyers associated with a local paper delivery company. Investigators were able to tie the flyers to Morell, who worked for the delivery company. Authorities searched Morell’s home and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the preliminary report.

Police said the woman identified Morell in a photographic lineup.
