Flash Flooding Causes Road Damage in Benton County

Tim Dart lives on Perry Road in Garfield. Sugar Creek rose and reached his fence.

"This area here was like a river," Dart said.

There were also culverts exposed on Perry Road. On Old Liberty Road, the heavy rain washed away parts of the dirt road. The Benton County Road Department had it fixed by the afternoon.

"To get that much rain at one time, it's going to do a lot of damage," Dart said.

In Rogers, Deputy Chief Bryan Hinds said the Fire Department responded to two cars stranded by high waters.

In the area of Shadow Valley, the woman was able to walk out by herself by the time firefighters arrived. On Rainbow Road, firefighters helped a man get to dry land. No injuries were reported.

On Peck Road in Pea Ridge, Sugar Creek rose over the bridge. The road was closed for the morning and most of the afternoon.

"I'd say in 30 minutes it rose two to three feet," said Robin Ivy, who lives in Pea Ridge.

There were tree limbs and debris stuck under the bridge, which caused the water to swell. Road crews hauled the debris to the side of the road to open the bridge around 4 p.m.

"They took a backhoe and cleaned off the drift wood," Ivy said.

Most roads were open and water had receded by the end of the day.
